TARIFFS & DUTIES WHEN BUYING FROM THE U.S.

As of August 29th 2025, U.S. Customs rules have changed and they no longer allow international commercial shipments under $800 to enter the U.S. duty-free. The U.S. has placed a tariff rate of 15% on the E.U.

You will be contacted after dispatch with your tariff fee and a payment link. Please look out for an email from An Post* (Irish postal service) where you have 5 days to pay the tariff so delivery can be completed.

Please note: we cannot refund shipping costs for failure to pay duties as your order will already be in transit when you receive the charge.

To estimate:
Your total duties = (1) tariff + (2) sales taxes + (3) admin/facilitation fee*

(1) If your order total is $50.00, the 15% tariff on $50 = $7.50 tariff
(2) Your sales taxes should be included at checkout with Etsy
(3) Admin/facilitation fees depend on the carrier

* large shipments may be sent by UPS, DHL or FedEx

FAQs

Why am I being charged tariffs?

On July 30th 2025, the Trump administration announced that “de minimis” would be completely removed in the U.S, as of August 29th, 2025. This was the allowance for international shipments under $800 to enter the U.S. duty-free. Almost all commercial packages imported into the US now require payment of tariffs before delivery.

What is the tariff rate? Are they different depending on what I buy?

The Misfit Paper Co. is based in Ireland, and the EU was placed under a “reciprocal tariff” of 15%. All of our products fall into the 15% category.

Who is An Post, and why are they charging me?

An Post is the Irish postal service, and the organisation normally responsible for collecting customs duties from Irish consumers when we order from outside the EU. As US domestic services were given such short notice for a massive increase in the quantity of packages to charge duty on, they don’t have the resources to collect their own tariffs. It has become the responsibility of foreign services to collect these US taxes for them.

Why can’t I get a refund on shipping costs?

In order for your duties to be correctly calculated and collected by the postal service/courier, it needs to be shipped first. The shipping will have already been paid and used, and if you reject the parcel/refuse payment the shipping company does not refund that cost to us. This is why we request agreement of shipping terms before purchase.
